We are WATER FOR PEOPLE

Reaching everyone forever: At Water For People, we spend years, not days, in communities. We work down to the individual. Even the hardest to reach, the most vulnerable, the marginalised have access to safe, reliable water, sanitation and hygiene services.

EVERYBODY MUST HAVE ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER

Whether it's a drink from the tap, a working toilet or a place to wash our hands, having water is a basic necessity that many of us take for granted.

But in many parts of the world, women and children spend more than four hours walking for water every day, and more than 840,000 people die each year from diseases contracted as a result of unsafe water.

At Water For People, everything we do stems from the belief that everyone should have access to safe water and sanitation, forever.

THE GLOBAL WATER CRISIS

From a drink of water to a functioning toilet, water and sanitation are basic necessities that we often take for granted, but globally, 1 in 3 people do not have access to safe drinking water and 1 in 2 people do not have a basic toilet. This is the problem we face head on.

THE IMPACT ON WOMEN AND GIRLS

The lack of water and sanitation services is especially difficult for women and girls. They are often responsible for collecting water, which takes them away from work and school. However, when they have water, all that changes. They have time to work, study and spend time with their families.

THE IMPACT ON HEALTH

Without access to clean water, people resort to using and drinking water from contaminated sources, leading to preventable diseases such as diarrhoea and cholera. These diseases waste families' time and money, and can even cause death. When communities have a safe water source, they can thrive.

BUILDING CLEAN WATER AND SANITATION SOLUTIONS

Water For People is an international non-profit organization based in Denver, Colorado. Our mission is to provide water, sanitation, and hygiene services to everyone and ensure that these solutions last forever.

We are working to achieve this ambitious goal by partnering with local community members, businesses, and governments, assisting them in bringing sustainable water and sanitation systems to their communities. We then ensure they have the training and tools they need to maintain these systems for generations.

We spend years, not days, in districts working until every family, clinic, and school has safe and reliable water and sanitation services.

LONG-TERM COMMITMENT AND LASTING CHANGE

We are a charity that isn't afraid to get our hands dirty. We have a realistic plan to achieve lasting change: a plan that involves working with communities, empowering local workers, building sustainable systems, and sharing what we've learned with the world.

WHERE DOES WATER FOR PEOPLE WORK?

Water For People currently operates in nine countries around the world: Guatemala, Honduras, Bolivia, Peru, Malawi, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, and India. Our staff in each country are familiar with the culture and language of the communities we serve. Based on grants and special funds, we have worked in over 40 countries since our inception, but we have found that a specific focus is more effective and efficient. We have been using this focused approach since 2011.
